Beluga Whale Migration

Image
The annual migration of beluga whales began 2 days ago. More than 50,000 whales are migrating south. Cameras have been set up where the Churchill River meets Hudson Bay. 2/3 of  the worlds population travel there.  Here is the link to view the belugas migrating on an underwater camera. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdxSSHjEtwA

What I have Learned

I have learned a lot of information on endangered marine species.  I hope some day when Covid is over I will be able to meet the people I talked to in-person. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me with this blog. I believe the best way to thank everyone who has helped me is to get the message out to the world. I hope someday when I am older we will have decreased the number of endangered marine species by thousands.

Mystic Aquarium Really Works Hard For Animals to Stay Safe Part 4

These are my last questions. 10. Hundreds of thousands of marine species are endangered. 11. There are many species out there we have not yet discovered. During the interview I also thought of this question. Are you still allowing encounters with the animals at Mystic during Covid? Yes, you can still have encounters with stingrays and penguins, but not belugas, as I said earlier they are able to catch Covid-19

Some more answers to my questions, 7. There are only 12 vaquitas in the world today. The vaquitas are critically endangered. 8. No new animals have been added in the U.S. ,this is NOAA's [ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] list of endangered sea species in the U.S. https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/species-directory/threatened-endangered?title=&species_category=any&species_status=any&regions=all&items_per_page=all&sort= 9. This the most recent video I could find of NOAA's preservation of marine animals on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8n6H

Some more answers to my questions 4. Mystic Aquarium has 32 African Penguins. There are only tens of thousands left in the world today. In the 1900s there used to be millions of penguins. They were lost over plastics, oil spills and people fishing for the penguin's food. South Africa needs baby penguins from Mystic. Mystic takes baby penguins  to South Africa to help their population of penguins grow. They collect penguin poop to find out if the penguins are healthy. There are 7 different species of turtles, 6 of them are endangered. There are 6 turtles right now in Mystic that were caught in Massachusetts. They had a cold stump and they were picked up. They are always released after they heal. 5.Different season changes are ok for the animals except the African penguin. 6. Mystic aquarium closed from March 17th until the end of April. The beluga whales at Mystic needed workers to come see them because they missed people every day. . The masks scared the whales and the sea li...

Mystic Aquarium Really Works Hard For Animals to Stay Safe

I had an interview with Mary Ellen Mateleska. She is the Director of Education & Conservation at Mystic Aquarium.  These are some of the answers to my questions; 1. Litter in the ocean is all human caused. Most of the litter is  coming  from crowded beaches. The wind blows the litter out of the trash bin or when a person leaves litter on the beach, the tide takes it to the ocean and to other water sources.  2. It is very important  also that you should cut up the elastics that go around your ears on single use masks. There  have also been people who have made things that you are not able to cut up, safe for sea animals. There is a person who has found a way to make a kind of balloon that will disintegrate in the ocean. There are many people trying to help sea animals. 3. Most vaquita, which are really small porpoises, are the most endangered of all. There are less then 20 left in the world, today.  The Hawksbill sea turtle is also critically...

Mystic

I am talking to Mystic Aquarium tomorrow. I will be asking these questions. I will do a follow up post when I have the answers. 1. What is the most common reason for litter in the ocean? 2. My family cuts the plastic rings around bottles of soda. Is there anything else we can do like that? 3. What is the most endangered sea animal? 4. Do you have a special endangered animal Mystic is trying to save? 5. Is it harder with the seasons to care for Mystic's animals? 6. How has COVID 19 impacted animals? 7. Is there one endangered animal that is really in trouble? 8. Have any new animals been added to the endangered species list? 9. Have any animals been taken off the list? 10. How many sea animals are endangered? 11. Do you think there are some endangered sea animals we haven't discovered?
