Mystic Aquarium Really Works Hard For Animals to Stay Safe

 I had an interview with Mary Ellen Mateleska. She is the Director of Education & Conservation at Mystic Aquarium.

These are some of the answers to my questions;

1. Litter in the ocean is all human caused. Most of the litter is  coming  from crowded beaches. The wind blows the litter out of the trash bin or when a person leaves litter on the beach, the tide takes it to the ocean and to other water sources.

2. It is very important  also that you should cut up the elastics that go around your ears on single use masks. There  have also been people who have made things that you are not able to cut up, safe for sea animals. There is a person who has found a way to make a kind of balloon that will disintegrate in the ocean. There are many people trying to help sea animals.

3. Most vaquita, which are really small porpoises, are the most endangered of all. There are less then 20 left in the world, today.  The Hawksbill sea turtle is also critically  endangered, There are only 350 left of these right now. The oxeloto salamander is only found as pets not in lakes. The Hawaiian Monk Seal is protected by the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Even with these protections human activity still provides many stressors for the seals.  It is a lot worse than I thought. Some people just don't care at all. They need to be told how really important this situation is.

More about my interview to come.
